  • STO (Single Threaded Owner) Alexa Domains

    2018 - 2021

I led multi-disciplinary teams of Software Engineers, Product Managers, Data Scientists and Technical Program Managers to deliver AI/ML customer-facing experiences to Alexa customers World-Wide. I led the Engineering teams for Alexa Kitchen Domain. Our mission is to help customers get food to table daily, and save time while doing it. To deliver on this mission, we built Machine Learning (ML) experiences such as our Kitchen AI assistant which guides customers with a conversational Food AI along their journey of picking, purchasing, and preparing a meal. Give it a try - next time you're hungry or even if you just have the munchies, ask an echo device "Alexa, what should I eat?" and you'll enter into a rich conversational AI experience that we built apart from the more common transactional voice interaction experience. After completing my seventh Q4 holiday shopping peak with TRMS (Transaction Risk Management Systems) in Seattle, where I worked with incredibly talented Amazonians singularly focused on protecting customers against bad actors to make Amazon the safest place to transact online, I moved onto my next adventure at Amazon and also returned to my hometown here in the Bay Area where I began working on one of the coolest products on the planet - Alexa! My Alexa teams are obsessed with making Alexa smarter by empowering her with best in class ML and AI to answer all information-related questions for customers which include questions about weather, sports, business, entertainment and more. It’s Day 1 all over again!

  • AI / ML Engineering Leader - Machine Learning Risk Platform

    2016 - 2018

Machine Learning (ML) Engineering leader for Amazon's Worldwide Risk Platform that runs a real-time ML model risk evaluation for every order customers place on Amazon worldwide. My team worked on the incredibly hard problem of making this ML risk evaluation go from an offline check to running in real-time at Peak holiday traffic volume (think: Prime Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and the last few days leading up to Christmas when folks are rushing to get their holiday gift orders placed!) for all of Amazon world-wide. Along with our Data Science parter teams we innovated on behalf of customers to make this happen so that we could keep the bad guys away and make sure that Customers were getting their orders fulfilled at the busiest and most critical times. We also worked on the problem of detecting and mitigating against malicious usage across all of Amazon. From Retail (including Bookstore) to Kindle, to AWS and Echo devices, my team’s systems protected all of Amazon's businesses and our customers from Fraudsters. We built real-time, self-service, best in class Machine Learning solutions to detect and stop bad guys at Amazon scale with ML and the awesomness of Amazon Web Services.

  • Senior Software Engineer (Marimba)

    2001 - 2005

In my role, I designed and implemented multithreaded Java applications to manage Unix, Windows, and Mac servers.
