Through Josh Kanter Wealth Advisory Services, Josh provides thoughtful, personalized multi-generational family, business and legal wealth advisory services to his clients. Using his legal and family office backgrounds, Josh works with clients in various areas, including family meeting design and facilitation, family and business structuring, family governance, family office design, trust, estate and tax planning, risk mitigation, “blind spot” review, development of family “owner’s manuals,” philanthropy, and more. Josh comes to this work with not only his formal education and decades-long legal experience, but with the personal experience of having done this work with and for his own multi-generational family over the past 20 years.

In 1990, I began serving as Vice President of Windy City, Inc., where I am responsible for investment review, structuring, and documentation. In addition, I often served as the investor’s formal or informal representative to their board of directors. Under these circumstances, I am involved in the development of budgets, strategic plans, operating strategies, financing, and general corporate governance and documentation. Windy City, Inc. is a private, family-controlled investment management firm principally centered on healthcare, venture capital, capital market, portfolios, and a variety of hedge fund investments. For twelve years, I specialized in real estate, corporate, and securities law at Barack Ferrazzano, where I successfully built a book of business with various portfolio companies. Since 1999, I have served as of counsel for the firm. This allows me to act as general counsel to clients and see the entirety of their business to better understand their goals and objectives. My most prominent case occurred in 1999 when I successfully managed a forty-year complex tax litigation matter through multiple levels of appeal including the U.S. Supreme Court. Defying the beliefs of lawyers throughout the country, my dedication and creative approach allowed me to close the case in favor of my client.
