After volunteering as an academic workshop facilitator inside prisons for two years, I felt frustrated with the lack of educational opportunities at the prison and the impact it had on the 79% recidivism in Connecticut. To solve this problem my co-founder and I created a nationally recognized college-in-prison program that has worked with >100 students with a 0% recidivism rate. This role has involved everything from curriculum creation and delivery, fundraising, marketing and publicity, human capital management, and partnership development between Wesleyan and the CT Department of Corrections. Today I remain involved as an Advisory Board member.
